There are a number of factors that can trigger an eczema flare up such as environmental irritants, heat, stress, and an inflammatory diet. The result is a disrupted barrier, causing the skin to lose moisture and become dry, inflamed, itchy, reactive and scaly.
In order to best manage flareups, eliminating foods that are pro-inflammatory is advised. Refined, processed foods high in sugar, cooked in inflammatory fats, as well as dairy, gluten, processed meats, red meat (not grass fed and finished), spices and condiments, alcohol and soft drinks, all present a problem and increase inflammation.
