The treatment

What is Cosmelan?

Cosmelan is a professional depigmentation treatment for stubborn pigmentation that keeps coming back, and it's a gold-standard treatment for melasma worldwide.

If you've tried everything and your pigment keeps returning, it's often because hormonal pigment and melasma behave differently to other pigmentation and need a different approach. Cosmelan works at the root, inhibiting the enzyme that drives melanin so it fades existing pigment while regulating what your skin makes next, on all skin colours and ethnicities. It also boosts collagen, so texture, fine lines and acne scarring can improve alongside a clearer, brighter complexion.

It runs in two phases: a potent depigmentation mask applied in clinic, then a home-care plan over 6 months to hold the result. Your package includes the mask application plus 3 months of home-care essentials and maintenance. Every treatment starts with an in-depth consultation, so we can diagnose your pigment type and confirm Cosmelan is right for you.

What it helps with

Made for the concern you came in with.

This is for you if

  • Melasma
  • Hormonal pigmentation
  • Stubborn, resistant pigment that keeps coming back
  • Pigmentation on all skin colours and ethnicities
  • Uneven skin tone, with added improvement to texture, fine lines and acne scarring

Not sure which applies to you? A skin consultation maps it to a plan.

How it works

How your treatment works.

Hormonal pigment and melasma are different to other forms of pigmentation, which is why treatments that work on sun spots often don't hold. Cosmelan works at the root.

It inhibits tyrosinase, the enzyme that drives melanin production, so pigment is treated at a cellular level rather than just on the surface.

  • It slows pigment production and calms overactive melanocytes
  • It fades existing pigmentation while regulating what your skin produces next
  • It helps prevent pigment from returning

It also stimulates collagen, so alongside clearer, brighter skin you can see improvement in fine lines, acne scarring, texture and tone.

What to expect

Been here before?

You've probably already spent money on skin that didn't change.

Before you book

The honest bit: what's normal, and when to wait.

Every skin is different. Here is what tends to happen afterwards, and the times it is worth pausing to check with your therapist first.

What's normal afterwards

As the pigment clears, your skin goes through a normal adjustment:

  • Redness, warmth and a tight feeling
  • Dryness and peeling or flaking in the days after the mask
  • Temporary sensitivity

Your home-care plan is designed to support your skin through this.

When to check with us first

Cosmelan always begins with a consultation, so we can confirm it suits your skin and your type of pigment. Please tell us if:

  • You're pregnant or breastfeeding
  • You have very sensitive or reactive skin, or an active skin condition in the area
  • You're using retinoids or other active treatments, or have had recent sun exposure
  • You have a history of reaction to depigmentation or skin-lightening products

Not sure it is right for you? A consultation covers your history, your skin and your goals before anything begins.

Good to know

Your questions, answered.

Everything worth knowing before your appointment. Still unsure which treatment suits you? A quick consultation sorts it out.

What is Cosmelan?

Cosmelan is a professional depigmentation treatment for stubborn, resistant pigmentation, and it's considered a gold-standard treatment for melasma worldwide.

It works on all skin colours and ethnicities, and it's especially suited to melasma and hormonal pigment, which behave differently to other kinds of pigmentation and need to be treated differently.

How does Cosmelan work?

It targets the root cause. Cosmelan inhibits tyrosinase, the enzyme responsible for producing melanin, so it:

  • Slows down pigment production
  • Reduces overactive melanocytes
  • Helps prevent pigmentation coming back

It fades existing pigment while regulating future melanin production, and it also boosts collagen, which can improve fine lines, acne scarring, texture and tone along the way.

What does the treatment involve?

There are two phases.

  • In clinic, we apply a potent depigmentation mask, which stays on your skin for 8 to 12 hours depending on your skin type and colour
  • At home, you continue with a maintenance cream and essential skincare plan for 6 months, to lock in lasting results

Your package includes the mask application plus 3 months of home care essentials and maintenance.

Is Cosmelan right for my pigmentation?

It depends on the type of pigment. For melasma and hormonal pigmentation, Cosmelan is our number one recommendation. For sun damage or more superficial pigment, another treatment may suit you better. We'll diagnose your pigment type at your consultation and recommend the right approach.

How do I book an appointment?

Book online any time, or call the clinic during opening hours. New to a treatment? A short skin consultation is the best place to start.

Do you offer payment plans?

Yes. Zip is available at checkout, so you can pay over time, and our skin memberships spread the cost of a course. Packages can be used up to 12 months later.

Will I need a consultation first?

For most advanced treatments, yes. A consultation checks your skin and history so your plan is safe, and it counts toward your treatment. Browse all treatments or ask us which suits you.

Where are you and is there parking?

You will find the clinic in the heart of Cronulla, with street parking close by. Full directions and opening hours are on our contact page.
