The treatment

What is Cryotherapy?

Cryotherapy is a quick, precise treatment for removing small benign skin lesions such as warts, skin tags and age spots.

Using liquefied nitrous oxide, we freeze the lesion so it breaks down and clears over the following days, while leaving the surrounding skin largely untouched. Many lesions are treated in a single visit.

Every treatment starts with a consultation so we can check the lesion is suitable and give you an exact price, which varies with size and starts from $80.

What it helps with

Made for the concern you came in with.

Areas

Concerns it targets

This is for you if

  • Warts
  • Skin tags
  • Age spots
  • Other small benign skin lesions (assessed first at consultation)

Not sure which applies to you? A skin consultation maps it to a plan.

How it works

How your treatment works.

Cryotherapy works by freezing the lesion with intense cold.

We apply liquefied nitrous oxide precisely to the spot, which freezes the tissue and disrupts the cells that make it up. Over the following days, the treated lesion breaks down and clears as the skin heals.

Because it's targeted, the surrounding skin is largely left alone.

What to expect

Downtime
Minimal. The area may be red or form a small scab while it heals, but you can carry on with your day.
Sessions
Often a single treatment, with some lesions needing a repeat session depending on size and type.
How to care for your skin afterwards

Been here before?

You've probably already spent money on skin that didn't change.

Real skin concerns don't respond to guesswork, or to whatever machine a clinic happens to own. They respond to the right treatment, at the right depth, in the right order. That is the difference between spending on your skin and actually solving it.

Why Cronulla Skin Sanctuary

Real results and genuine care

For twenty years the Shire has trusted the Sanctuary to take the guesswork out of skin. Paramedical treatments, honest advice, and a therapist who holds your history: that is the difference between a fluffy facial and a plan that actually changes your skin.

Your first appointment

The first appointment isn't a treatment.

It's ninety minutes of working out what's actually going on, what you've already tried, and what's realistic. You leave with a plan in writing covering treatment, homecare and the order to do them in.

$85Skin consultation, about 90 minutes. Virtual consultation $60.
  1. 01

    Your skin, read properly.

A full skin analysis including imaging, plus a conversation about what you've used before and how your skin reacted.

  2. 02

You get the plan in writing.

What to treat first and why, what each stage costs, and roughly how long it takes. If you do not need a treatment yet, that is the answer.

  3. 03

    You start when you're ready.

The same therapist follows your progress and adjusts the plan as your skin responds.

The plan is yours to keep whether or not you book anything on the day.

Before you book

The honest bit: what's normal, and when to wait.

Every skin is different. Here is what tends to happen afterwards, and the times it is worth pausing to check with your therapist first.

What's normal afterwards

Short-term responses in the treated area are normal:

  • Redness, tenderness or mild swelling
  • A small blister or scab as the area heals
  • A temporary lighter or darker mark in the skin as it settles
When to check with us first

Every lesion is assessed at a consultation before treatment, because cryotherapy is only suitable for benign lesions. Please tell us if:

  • You're unsure what a spot or lesion is, or it has changed in size, shape or colour
  • You're pregnant or breastfeeding
  • You have a condition that affects healing or circulation
  • The area has an active infection

Anything suspicious or changing should be checked by your GP or a doctor, as cryotherapy is not used to treat or diagnose skin cancers.

Not sure it is right for you? A consultation covers your history, your skin and your goals before anything begins.
